Chapter News

  • Thank YOU for your nominations!

    Upsilon Kappa Members:

On behalf of the leadership succession committee, we would like to thank everyone for their board nominations. We had several outstanding leaders nominated to serve on various board positions. Nominees be on the lookout the last week of March for the consent to serve emails and forms.  As a reminder elections will be held May 6-12, 2024! Thank you all for your participation, expertise, and excellence in nursing. Together we can make a difference!

  • Message to our chapter members regarding changes to membership dues

Since our inception in 2008, Upsilon Kappa has thrived on the dedication and contributions of its members. We've built a strong chapter, fostered academic excellence, and made a positive impact on our community.

Following careful consideration and analysis, the Upsilon Kappa chapter leadership has made the decision to increase our annual membership dues by $5, effective July 1, 2024. We want to assure you that this decision was not taken lightly and is essential for the continued success and growth of our chapter.

    New Annual Dues:

    • Renewal/New members- $110.00
    • Students - $95.00
    • Retired Nurses - $95.00

The small increase in membership dues will allow our chapter to hold two scholarly events per year, open to all community partners to network, share poster presentations and podium presentations on healthcare topics impacting our communities. The increase in dues will also support our Upsilon Kappa chapter new member induction celebration, to recognize our next generation of exemplary nursing students and leaders. Other benefits from the increase in funds will support events such as Nurses’ Week celebrations and community service projects.

Together, we can ensure that Upsilon Kappa continues to be a vibrant and impactful chapter for generations to come. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

If you are experiencing a hardship and need assistance with your membership dues, we invite you to apply for the Edith Anderson Membership Subsidy.

    Sincerely,

The Upsilon Kappa Chapter Board Members

  • Upsilon Kappa's Scholarly Event was a Success!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support Upsilon Kappa Chapter's Annual Scholarly Event. Our President kicked off the evening with a BOLD and inspiring address that illustrated all of our chapter's accomplishments over the last year. We learned about four projects that will be showcased at Sigma's upcoming Biennial Convention. And then we closed out the evening with a viewing of the documentary "Who Cares: A Nurse's Fight for Equity" by Whitney Fear and an intimate discussion about what self-care really means to nurses and how to meet patients where they are in life. What a wonderful evening! Looking forward to what 2024 has in store for our chapter.

  • October Scholarly Event- Review/Debrief 5B Documentary Film

Hello Chapter Members! Thanks to all who participated in our annual chapter meeting and scholarly event on Oct 5th.
Our scholarly event was a movie night hosted by our UWF-School of Nursing, Florida Nurses Association, and Sigma. We watched the powerful documentary film called 5B. After the viewing, our UWF nurse faculty moderated as we debriefed in multiple round-table sessions. We discussed many topics including moral courage displayed by the nurses who were innovative and brave. Parallels were made with the pandemic response of our nursing profession.
For those interested, the link to the YouTube trailer is included.
Your Chapter Board members applaud you all for your moral courage and continued commitment to our profession. Reach out to any board member for further conversation about moral courage.
    Kind Regards,
Karen and your Chapter Board members
